Natchez Trace Stables can help. NTS offers private lessons for all skill levels from ages 6 years and up in either Western or English riding. Bring your own horse or use one of ours.

Our instructors work with students using Larry's unique training methods which produce solid results and balanced riders. Each lesson typically lasts 1 hour. NTS offers one-on-one training to provide the student with individual instruction allowing them to progress at their own rate. No group classes are available at this time.

I've enjoyed riding horses all of my life. I remember the first time I ever rode a horse was at summer camp at Camp DeSoto in Mentone, AL in the early 1960's. One of the classes I took was horseback riding. I was there for one month. After that, the only time I ever had a chance to ride horses was on vacations. So when I decided to buy my first horse and start riding in the Fall of 2010 at the age of 59, I was basically starting from scratch. At first, I was intimidated by the horse. But with Larry's & Arnie's instruction and encouragement, I began to find my balance, learn to relax and enjoy riding my horse, Joe.

My 7 year old daughter Anna Claire has loved horses for as long as I can remember. Last summer she talked me into signing her up for a very expensive, week long horse camp. After a few traumatic days of horse camp, we realized that she only loved the horse from 'afar'. She would NOT get on the horse. By day 4 of the camp she would walk one and by day 5 she would allow my niece to lead her around the ring. As a result of the week of horse camp, Anna Claire was hesitant to pursue her love of horses. However, in December of last year, my sister visited Natchez Trace Stables and talked with Larry Marsman. She told him about the camp experience and wondered if he might be willing/able to work with Anna Claire in a one-on-one situation. Anna Claire began taking lessons twice a week. Thanks to Larry's PATIENCE, experience and expertise, this summer Anna Claire is saddling her horse, riding around barrels, riding with no hands (see slide show at top of page) and LOVES her horse, Spinner.

I have been barrel racing for four years now and just recently came to Natchez Trace Stables. I have been here about four months now and my horse and I have already had incredible improvement in barrel racing. Before I came here my barrel times were not very consistent at all. Sometimes I would run 15 seconds but most of thet ime it would be 16 second runs or even 17 second runs. But lately we have stayed very consistent in the low 15's and we're still getting better. Not only have my barrel racing skills improved but my horsemanship skills have also improved greatly.
I love it here at the Natchez Trace Stables, it is a very beautiful place and the services they have to offer are great.
